LED EFFICIENCY

LEDs transfer most of their energy use into light, rather than waste heat. By converting electrons to photons instead of the other way around, LEDs work like solar panels in reverse. In 2011, 53 percent of global residential lighting were incandescent and halogen lamps but dropped to 10 percent in 2020 yet LED’s only hold 2 percent of residential lighting. Project Drawdown’s LED solution found that Led luminaires are more energy-efficient than others. 94 lumens per watt were found for LED luminaires while only 12 lumens per watt were found for incandescent lamp luminaires which is what a lot of residential lighting is supplied with. LED lighting is assumed to take over 90 percent of the residential market and 80 percent of the commercial market by 2050.
